Seventeen Minute Intro to Classical Education

Helpful basic introduction to classical education (17 minute lecture). "Ancient Future Education" by Davies Owens (from Q Ideas, Washington, D.C., April 10–12, 2012). Description from the website:

Most people don’t know that current educational practice is less than a century old. Paradoxically, the harder we try to produce great thinkers similar to those of the past, the further we move from the style of education that produced them. I've heard a rumor that a good number of Chesterton fans exist on ClassicalEducator. Some may find this tribute (of a sort) to be of interest: The Sovereign God of "Elfland". Reading Orthodoxy myself recently (again and more carefully) was a wonderful experience! It is free on the Kindle and as an amateur audio book at …

THANKS MASTER JESSE FOR YOUR GREETINGS & KIND REMARKS.

I am not from the Bahamas however: I am  from Jamaica and that is where I was first introduced to a classical type educational system.

Thank you Jesse. It was a valuable experience in hearing you participate in a Socratic discussion. I conducted my first one yesterday; I modeled it after yours. The students were responsive; of course, the topic of evolution is a pretty controversial one.

Jesse,

Thanks so much for writing.  It's a pleasure connecting with you here, as well, and to learn more about you.  Aren't cat's the greatest?  Jax is about four and a half months old and still quite the kitten.  He is so adorable that he is in danger of killing us with his cuteness. I wish you a great new year and hope to have more discussions with with the good folks here at classical educator.  Peace to you- Shelly
