My school is looking to overhaul the Bible curriculum at the lower school (elementary), and I am curious what people are using.  Do you use a bought curriculum, or does someone write it in-house?Continue

Jacob, I'm teaching through the Gospels right now w/ 9th graders.  This is my first time to do so and I am writing the curriculum as I go.

Here's how I have done it:  We have gone with a four-fold witness approach [trying not to harmonize or synthesize] and staggered the topics throughout the Gospels.  So, for each Gospel we have done the basic facts [authorship, date, audience, etc], some distinctives, structure, etc.

And then [we started with Mark], we laid out some basics about Jesus' ministry in Galilee while studying Mark [looking at the Kingdom-announcement, preaching vs. healing, etc] as well as the concept of discipleship.

In Matthew we looked at Jesus' teaching & ethics as well as Matthew's presentation of Jesus as the fulfillment of Israel.

In Luke, we looked at Jesus' journey to & actions in Jerusalem [focusing on crucifixion] - as well as Jesus' parables.

And in John, we will [we start Monday] look at the concept of Jesus' divinity and also examine the resurrection.

This was/is a roughly 4/5 week unit.  It has seemingly gone well so far - and my kids have been impressing me with their learning on many levels.  They are extremely engaged, as well [particularly with our ethics stuff - lots of debate & discussion there].

How would you teach through the Gospels?
